BROADWAY BOOTCAMP LLC is a performance-based camp with daily exposure to Broadway material and traditions. Campers sing, dance and act every day becoming well-rounded performers. Our campers learn how to communicate with confidence. We cater to all levels of performers: kids who may need to build confidence and kids who are performing regularly. Real stage terminology is used so children have a working knowledge of being in a theatrical production: call boards, warm ups, cast pre-show energy circles all add to the campers experience.
Our show is written every year around a central theme using 12 Broadway Songs. The show for 2021 is called "Four Stories" and features songs from recent Broadway Shows with a theme of fairy tales! BBC is special because we use an original script that can accommodate beginning performers and those who are professional already!
Every camper has a role in the show with their moment to shine. Great care is taken to cast every camper with the opportunity to perform to their best ability. The cast list is posted after the first day of camp. Past performances have shown us that children love to perform the show and take great care to perform their part no matter the size! Broadway show traditions: warm ups, sound checks, prop checks, dressing room bonding and pre-show circles all add to the fun!
Space limitations and maintaining a safe learning environment dictates the number we can accept into the program. Students receive scores from professional staff members well versed in adjudicating in three areas (singing, dance and acting). Auditions help predict children who will thrive in a fast-paced theater camp. If your child follows directions, has good focus and loves performing it will show! For our older, more experienced campers this day lets us see where your child has blossomed over the past year. Auditioning reflects the real life scenario for all performers- to be cast in shows you must audition. This day is a valuable learning experience in itself.
Every day begins with a large circle, vocal and physical warm ups and daily announcements. Talent Share begins as campers opt to share their one minute talent with the rest of camp. The first part of the day is WORKSHOPS of Singing, Acting and Dance. The company is broken up into groups that circulate though the various workshops. There is a fifteen minute break after which rehearsals for the show begin. There are usually 3-4 different rehearsal rooms running at any different time so campers are ALWAYS busy. During tech week we have longer days as we begin to run the show in its entirety on the stage with various elements added every day; hair, make up, lights, costumes, quick changes, set changes, props etc. At the end of every day we announce the "STAR OF THE DAY"the person or group who have shown an extraordinary effort or talent that day. Star of the Day includes a prize and a picture posted on Social Media:)
Camp is three weeks and attendance is mandatory for all days of camp. There is a strict attendance policy as the rehearsals are fast paced with no time to review lost days. Our mini camp is one week.
Yes. We can accommodate most requests for daily workshops (grouped by age). Rehearsal grouping is according to specific scenes and numbers. Dressing rooms are assigned via school grade level.
The mini camper minimum age is set at 7 years old because reading scripts and music dictate the need for strong reading skills.
